Media releaseMAKING USE OF ESPERANTO WHEN TRAVELLING ABROADEsperanto speakers from Lancashire, Cumbria, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Yorkshire will gather in Preston on Saturday 20 May 2006, for their annual high profile North West Esperanto Federation meeting (12 noon). The venue is the Empire Services Club in Hartington Road, Preston. The keynote speaker for this event will be the fluent and well travelled Esperanto speaker Ian Mac Dowall from Wirral. His talk titled 'Making use of Esperanto when travelling abroad' reflects his experiences when using the international language in Western Europe and Poland. In addition to Ian's lecture, there will be an AGM where a new president and treasurer will be elected. As with most Esperanto events, hospitality and conversation are also high on the agenda. Esperanto is a well designed and relatively easy language which can connect the learner to a welcoming global network. With the advancement of the internet, Esperanto is having a new lease of life with many young people learning the language through the free online introductory course (also available by post).
